Regulated education and training
By regulated education and training is meant training which is specifically geared towards the pursuit of a given profession and which comprises one or more courses, if relevant supplemented by professional training or probationary or professional practice as stipulated by law or regulations.
In Norway, a regulated education is an education governed by a national curriculum. A national curriculum describes the content of the programme, and it applies to all educational institutions that offer the education in question. National curricula are normally set out in a special act or regulations. Regulated education and training does not necessarily mean that the actual practice of the profession is regulated. It is therefore important to distinguish between regulated education and training and regulated professions.
In Norway, the following educations are governed by national curricula:
Teacher education:

Education and training programmes with special structures
By education and training programmes with special structures is meant that you have a diploma documenting completed education with a duration of minimum one year after upper secondary school, but that it is not at higher education level. In Norway, education with special structures are tertiary vocational education programmes with a duration of more than one year. It is specified in the Act relating to Tertiary Vocational Education Section 1 first paragraph that 'tertiary vocational education means vocational education based on upper secondary education or equivalent prior learning and work experience, with a duration of at least half an academic year and at the most two academic years.
